Vermiculite Animal Feed

Vermiculite in a refined form is used in animal feedstuffs. The free-flowing, soft, absorbent Vermiculite is an outstanding support material for carrying a wide range of nutrients.

As an example of the carrying capacity of Vermiculite, a free-flowing fat concentrate can be made consisting of 70 percent fat and 30 percent Vermiculite by weight.

It can also be used as a support material for molasses, vitamins, choline chloride and any liquid based materials to give a free-flowing granular material which can then be easily incorporated into the animal feedstuff.

Some of the properties and advantages of Vermiculite which are useful in animal feedstuffs are:

Low Dioxins and Furans (fluoride)
Low bulk density
Soft free-flowing material
High liquid absorption
Simplifies mixing of otherwise difficult materials
Can carry fine powders
Non combustible
Drying aid
Sterile when exfoliated (expanded)

Vermiculite is on the EC list of permitted additives in animal feeding stuffs under "Binders, anti-caking agents and coagulants; E 561; Vermiculite".
